The Story Of My Life - produced in 2009 - Written by Neil Diamond Gene Ferrari - Recorded live at Independance Hall,- Henderson, NV by Chuck Foley. Overdubs recorded at and mixed at UNLV studios - Las Vegas, NV

Arrange, produce and conduct a new opener for Gene Ferrari's show - "An Evening Of International Pop Music". We recorded this live with a 14 piece orchestra at Gene's performance. It's very difficult to record the flutes in this type of live and loud situation. Engineer Chuck Foley did a great job of wrestling this big project under control in a 32 trac Pro Tools capture.

Brian Czach - Drums, Chris Coleman - Bass, Rob Prince - Guitar, Carlos Perez - Perc. Gil Kaupp, Liz Kaupp, Dan Johnson - Trumpets. Roger Hall, Jim Spoto, Adam Hoffman & Jim Lewis - Woodwinds. Walt Boenig and Frank Cole - Trombones. Mariano Longo -Pianist / Arranger and Conductor

Segment # 1 of 6  in the  "French Medley"  for singer / entertainer Gene Ferrari.
These segments show how a medley is thought out and executed from arranging, scoring and &  recording perspectives. Gene Ferrari's artist input  was invaluable in putting these songs together in a cohesive and musical story line. On stage, they segue seamlessy together into a nice musical collage.
Yesterday, When I Was Young - produced in 2009 - written by: Charles Asnavour Gene Ferrari -  All sessions engineered by Chuck Foley
Segment # 2 of 6 in the "French Medley" for singer / entertainer Gene Ferrari.

I used a light bossa feel to move the tempo along -gradually adding orchestration as the quick verses unfold. The outro of this is actually the intro of "September Morn" in a reharmonized form.

September Morn' - produced in 2009 - written by: Neil Diamond & Gilbert Becaud Gene Ferrari - All sessions engineered by Chuck Foley
Segment # 3 of 6 in the "French Medley" for singer / entertainer Gene Ferrari.
Gene really knows how to swing a ballad like this so I pulled out all the stops to give it a big band swagger. - Then a key change into a big dramatic ending.
What Now My Love? - produced in 2009 - written by Sigman Becaud Gene Ferrari - All sessions engineered by Chuck Foley
Segment #4 of 6 in the "French Medley" for singer / entertainer Gene Ferrari.
I used a fast Bolero feel for the verses and then jumped to a "funk shuffle" on the bridge.  The electric guitar and synth are voiced up high and together in a rhythmic suspension figure that moves things along.
If We Only Have Love - produced in 2009 - written by Jacques Brel Gene Ferrari - All sessions engineered by Chuck Foley
Segment # 5 of 6 in the "French Medley" for singer / entertainer  Gene Ferrari
We put this in 12  / 8 to help keep the listener's interest in a subtle way. Key changes, feel and tempo variations, and style shifts all help to build momentum in this type of medley.  If the arrangement is successful, the listener stays engaged throughout and never perceives the length of the piece. I shifted it back to 4 /4 for the outro to add drama to the end.
If You Go Away - produced in 2009 - written by Jacques Brel. Gene Ferrari - All sessions engineered by Chuck Foley
Segment # 6 of 6 in the "French Medley" for singer / entertainer Gene Ferrari
The last song of the medley - in 3 / 4 time. This tune is melancholy by design, so we had to add color and drama with the orchestrations - building to the end. - A big majestic bed for Gene's trademark vocal ending.
